MEDICAL EXPERTS CANVASS BLOOD DONATION TO SAVE LIVES

As Fountain University, Osogbo joins in marking world blood donor day, medical experts has implored students and lecturers to donate blood to save lives.

The department organised the campaign and donation exercise in collaboration with National Association of Public Health Students(NAPHS) and college of Basic Medical & Health Sciences (COBHEMS) Fountain University.

The Deputy Director, Blood Bank, UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital, Mrs .Y .Aborishade who spoke on Tuesday at the blood donation and campaign exercise at the institution said a donor can donate every 56 days according to WHO standards.

She said,” This isn’t applicable to us in this part of the world as we donate one pint”.

She added, “A man can donate four times in a year whilst a woman can donate three times in a year”.

Furthermore, the Dean College of Basic Medical & Health Science, Dr M.D Adeoye, said blood donation is an act of solidarity and June 14 has been set aside by World Health Organisation(WHO) to raise awareness to the need to donate blood and thank voluntary blood donors for their life saving gift.

Also, a lecturer of the institution, Mr Akinlabi, who is an Islamic tutor disclosed that Islam is not against blood donation. 

He added that Islam came to protect life and anything that saves or protect life is obtainable in Islam.

The blood donation exercise and awareness campaign gathered a total of 85 donors within the university premises.
